Wrap Up Brum
This winter the Springboard team collected a number of warm coats, hats, gloves and scarves for the #WrapupBrum campaign run by Birmingham Cathedral to help the homeless.
The response to the appeal was phenomenal – the Cathedral received over 10,000 coats and warm jackets plus hundreds of hats, coats and scarves. They are now spending the rest of December ensuring that the donations are passed on to the homeless community and those in need.
The 2019 collection of coats will start in November.
Diwali Basket Brigade
Diwali Basket Brigade (DBB) is a community initiative run by local volunteers which took place on Saturday 3rd November 2018 across Birmingham.
This first of its kind community effort involved over 150 community volunteers of all ages preparing and packing 331 food hampers and then personally delivering them to vulnerable/socially deprived households from all faiths and backgrounds in and around Birmingham ahead of Diwali. The event organisers worked closely with charities, councils, schools and various other organisations to identify the recipient families.
Diwali is the Festival of Lights celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs, Jains & Buddhists. This year the festival fell on 7th November.
DBB founder and Springboard partner Deepak Parekh said “Diwali is a time of celebration and happiness. But unfortunately there are many people in our communities who for whatever reason don’t have much to cheer about. Some families struggle to make ends meet, others are simply feeling lonely or rejected by society. DBB is our small effort to support and spread the message of hope, happiness, and giving”.
DBB has raised almost £7,000 in donations from ordinary members of the community to support this project. The food hampers comprised both perishable (e.g. fruit and vegetables) and non- perishable food items (e.g. tinned soup, rice, pasta, pulses etc), a small Diwali lamp and a handmade Diwali card made by children. Basket contents were paid for through combination of funds raised and donations from local well known food suppliers including East Ends Foods Ltd and KTC Edibles Ltd.
The families to whom food hampers were delivered were nominated by various charities and community based organisations in and around West Midlands including Barnardos, Compass Support, B’ham City Council and MIND amongst others – this ensures that those who are in most need of support are directly benefiting from the initiative.

Springboard sponsor RGS Worcester in the Land Rover 4×4 In Schools Challenge
Springboard are delighted to announce that we are supporting Team Pinnacle from RGS Worcester in the 2016/17 Land Rover 4×4 In Schools challenge.
The Land Rover 4×4 in Schools Technology Challenge requires students to build a radio controlled four-wheel drive (4×4) vehicle to the specifications provided by the International Rules Committee. It must successfully navigate and complete obstacles on an off-road test track which is just as demanding as a real off-road situation.
Team Pinnacle took part in the National final at Silverstone on Wednesday 28th March where they were assessed on verbal presentation, engineering skills and, most importantly, driving. We are pleased to say that they were awarded 3rd place at the Nationals and are now through to represent the UK at the World finals which will be held at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi.
Good luck in the World finals Team Pinnacle!
